This North Lake Tahoe elopement felt like a fairytale! Elena and Oleg opted for a quiet ceremony North Lake Tahoe, and we all enjoyed being on “Tahoe Time” for the weekend. We began by the shore with a short and sweet ceremony with just the two of them. They wanted a true elopement-style ceremony, and this rocky beach was the perfect location for them to focus on each other.
While they took their time living in the moment, I was busy taking photos of it all. Moments like these deserve to be relived over and over again, so my assistant made a real-time video with their Go Pro! I love how it turned out. Instead of an overly edited version on the ceremony, the Go Pro documentary-style footage looks so much more authentic for an elopement. It’s also great for sharing – family and friends will feel like they’re right there with them when they watch it.
After the ceremony, we signed as witnesses, hopped in the car, and leisurely worked our way from the beach shore to a few private spots that I scoped out before their elopement! I can’t share my secrets, but I can tell you that this was the experience they were hoping for…and more! No one was around to get in the way of sweet moments or great photo opportunities. It was just the two of them and nature (and me discreetly documenting it all for them). I loved helping them plan this one-of-a-kind elopement experience!
Elena and Oleg intentionally chose a ceremony time closer to sunset so that we could do bride and groom portraits just as the sun was setting – and it was STUNNING to say the least. These newlyweds belong on the front cover of a magazine! The brave adventurers climbed across rocks together (even in her beautiful designer wedding gown) and got some super romantic shots that they had envisioned. Priceless!
If you’re considering a Lake Tahoe wedding or elopement but are unfamiliar with the area, it’s important to know that there are actually two distinct sides of the lake – North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe. Additionally, the stunning lake sits along the California-Nevada border. In short, it’s one lake with several distinct vibes depending on which section you’re on.
For instance, North Lake Tahoe – where Elena and Oleg eloped – is known more for its peaceful, scenic atmosphere. The majestic mountains have a way of refreshing the soul, and I’ve never seen wildflowers quite like the ones here. It’s an incredible experience and perfect for nature-loving adventurers. This side of the lake is quiet and intimate. In the winter, North Lake Tahoe is covered in white powder and hosts some of the best skiing in the US.
On the other hand, South Lake Tahoe is known more for the vibrant nightlife. Between the casinos, bars, and restaurants, you can find something 24 hours a day. South Lake Tahoe also showcases some fabulous art and music festivals, such as Valhalla Arts. Lots of fun cultural activities and events here (plus, you still have the beautiful lake and mountains as the backdrop for it all). For couples who want nature without removing themselves from all the action, South Lake Tahoe will fit the bill!
All in all, photographing Elena and Oleg’s North Lake Tahoe elopement was an absolute honor. Congratulation to the newlyweds – may this be the first of a lifetime of adventures together. Cheers!
