Pittsburgh Botanic Garden Wedding

As a wedding photographer, my hope is that the weather and little details will all fall into place on the big day. But unfortunately, that is not always the case. However, Maggi and Chad were all smiles even when it started raining. The wonderful wedding staff at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden simply moved the ceremony to a covered area, and the rain magically let up just in time for the couple’s photo session with their wedding party and their bride and groom portraits. We all had so much fun! It was really important to me to capture Maggi and Chad’s vision from behind the lens for their Pittsburgh Botanic Garden wedding.

The Vision

The bride and groom expressed that they wanted their wedding photos to feel happy, authentic, and romantic, despite everyone going through such a difficult year. They also wanted their photos to capture the overall experience instead of a collection of posed shots. A photojournalistic photography style is a great way to capture the story of their wedding day, especially for the friends and family who were not able to attend the ceremony. Their unique and personalized collection of wedding photos should show the celebration among family and friends, along with a visual of the couple joining together in marriage. I was excited to make that vision a reality, and with this photogenic couple, I think the photos from this Pittsburgh Botanic Garden wedding came out beautifully!

The Engagement Ring

Chad’s father passed away last year, so Maggi wanted to do something special for him. She planned a tree dedication for Chad’s father in the meadow where they were getting married. The bride surprised the groom with it that day, and I helped her keep the secret for a sweet and emotional photo session. It was such a special moment for the two of them! Maggi’s dedication inspired me so much that I decided to dedicate a tree in the meadow to my own grandfather who passed away a few years ago. Now, it’s a place my family will treasure for years to come.

When Maggi and Chad originally discussed engagement rings, Maggi expressed how important it was that she use her grandmother’s diamond. It’s gorgeous and holds a great deal of sentimental value. Then, Chad surprised her with two wedding bands containing diamonds from his own grandmother. Not only were the rings stunning, but I loved the deep meaning behind them.

Although couples often spend hours planning the perfect venue, dress, caterers, and cake, I truly believe it’s the small-but-significant personal details that make the wedding extra special. The love between Maggi and Chad is extraordinary. Each one is always thinking of the other. You can see it not only by the way they look at each other, but also because of the time and thoughtfulness they took to express their love through these meaningful gestures.
